YOGALEAN: A Dose of Hot-and-Spicy

Here are three delicious and healthy ways to boost your metabolism.

Nothing revs up your metabolism quite like a dose of hot-and-spicy. Here I add a little peperoncini into my salad mix and, for good measure, include some jalapeños in the dressing. Depending on your heat tolerance, you can carefully scrape the vein and seeds on of the peppers prior to chopping.

What you’ll need:

1/2 Cup chopped green peppers

2 Tablespoons peperoncini peppers, chopped

2 Persian cucumber, chopped

5 Black olives, chopped

2 Plum tomatoes, chopped

1 Cup shredded red cabbage

1/3 Cup chickpeas

1/4 Jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely minced (optional)

Dijon Dressing

1/2 Tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 Teaspoon olive oil

2 Teaspoons apple cider vinegar

1 Tablespoon parsley, chopped

1/2 Tablespoon jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely minced

In a large salad bowl, toss all salad incredients. Whisk the dressing in a small bowl and then toss with the salad.

Eggs, as we know, are a perfect start to any day. They are packed with protein and contain all the B vitamins, including vitamin B12, which naturally gives you energy. Adding japaleños (or your favorite hot pepper sauce) for an extra kick.

What you’ll need:

1 Teaspoon olive oil

1 Plum tomato, chopped

2 Cups chopped spinach

1/2 Jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped

1 Egg (or 1/3 cup of crumbled tofu)

In a skillet over medium-high heat, add olive oil. Add the tomato and sauté until the juices have evaporated, approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Add the spinach and cook for 3 or 4 minutes longer, until liquid is absorb, stirring occasionally. In the meantime, whisk the jalapeño and eggs together. Add them to the skillet and scramble with the spinach and tomatoes.

Matcha is a form of green tea that is packed full of antioidants, almost 137 times more than traditional green tea. It also contains a healthy dose of caffeine, which will provide the fuel your body needs to get you going.

What you’ll need:

2/3 Cup hot water

2 Tablespoons matcha powder

Honey to taste

1/3 Cup soy or almond milk, steamed

Bring the water to a boil and then remove from the heat. Stir in the matcha powder and honey, if using, until well combined. Pour into your favorite mug and top with steamed soy or almond milk. For an extra zing, add a green-tea bag.
