While we can’t turn back the clock to our younger selves, we can choose foods that support a youthful body and beautiful skin.

 

Protein-rich foods like beans, eggs, yogurt, and cheese give your hair and nails the nourishment they need to grow and be strong. Protein also provides energy and strength to help your body thrive and even recover faster when injured or sick.

     Probiotics in yogurt not only stimulate a healthy guy, but also benefit our gums and teeth, reducing the risk of disease. Research also shows that whole grains, rich in vitamins and minerals, can protect us against diabetes, heart disease, stroke, colon cancer, high blood pressure, and gum disease. Those same disease-fighting components are not present in processed, refined grains.

     Pile on the veggies and fruits and you’ll benefit from antioxidants, which combat free radicals—molecules that can cause widespread cell damage and are linked to chronic inflammation. An added bonus: eating foods rich in vitamin C helps keep your skin clearer and smoother.

     Finally, for sharper vision, keep an eye on spinach and other dark, leafy greens—prime sources of lutein and zeaxanthin, plant pigments that protect the eyes from the harmful effects of ultraviolet light. Leafy greens also contain loads of vitamin K, a nutrient that plays a role in reducing bone loss and preventing fractures.

 

Youthful Smoothie

 

A tasty, simple way to pack your veggie/fruit dailies into one serving. Cherries are anti-inflammatories, cancer fighters, sleep aids, gout preventers, and blood pressure lowerers. If you’ve never used borage oil, now’s the time to start. It’s an anti-inflammatory for the skin, so it will help maintain vitality and good hydration.

 

What you’ll need:

 

2 cups chopped kale or spinach

6 to 7 frozen pitted cherries

1/4 cup frozen blueberries

1/4 frozen banana

1 tablespoon almond butter

1/3 cup unsweetened almond or rice milk

1 teaspoon ground flaxseed

1 teaspoon borage oil (optional)

1 package of vitamin C mix (such as Emergen-C)

1 scoop protein powder (hemp, rice, or whey)

 

Make it YogaLean

Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
