International Day of Yoga is June 21: Learn How You Can Celebrate
7/06/2019Yoga is world-renowned for its effects on the body, mind, and health. International Yoga Day is an excellent opportunity to acknowledge the power of yoga and its positive effects on one’s spiritual, physical, and mental health. International Yoga Day is dedicated to everything yoga. You can spend the day reflecting on the many ways it helps you relax and stay sharp. Here are some other ideas on ways to celebrate the day:
Attend A Yoga Class
Of course, you should attend a yoga class on the international day of yoga. Regardless of your busy schedule, find some time to do a bit of yoga. A class or on your own, or just any time dedicated to the connection of your breath with movement and meditation while practicing your stance, will be a great way to contribute to how you can celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2019. Find a calm spot, or a time slot with one of your favorite yoga instructors, and challenge the world with the power of yoga.
Bring a Friend Who Has Never Done Yoga
You probably have at least one friend, family member, or co-worker who has never attended a yoga class. So, send them an invitation to try their first class with you in honor of International Yoga Day. This will bring you joy to see your friend give it a try, and you’ll hopefully watch them create a connection and love for it. Encouraging a friend to do something you’re passionate about may possibly spark that same passion in them.
If you can’t find a class to attend, you can check out our YogaFit Channel and rent an online class, or you can buy a yoga DVD.
Learn About The History Of Yoga
In Indian traditions, the history of yoga revolves around the physical exercise as a part of the multidimensional practice; it has a meditative and spiritual core. Yoga began as an ancient practice developed in India circa 3000 B.C, and you can find stone carvings of yoga postures throughout the Indus Valley. There is a broad variety of yoga schools and practices throughout the world, everyone having something different to offer from practices and goals.
There are eight major styles of yoga, including Anusara, Ashtanga, Bikram, Hatha, Hot Yoga, Iyengar, Restorative, and Vinyasa. Learning about the difference between these styles of yoga will better help you when becoming familiar with what classes at your gym has to offer.
