Dreams Do Come True
YogaFit was the beginning of a long journey that led Viana from a life torn by domestic violence to her true purpose as a trauma-sensitive yoga teacher.
Although she first took YogaFit’s Level One and Level Two teacher training in 2002—and taught it for 15 years as a certified fitness professional—she just completed her RYT 200 teacher training in May 2017. But back in November, 2003, “YogaFit played a huge part in helping me and my children leave an abusive, violent marriage,” she said, in which she suffered for 17 years. “It open up a whole new life path for me!”
The confidence she gained through YogaFit made Viana realize she could use yoga to help empower other women to take control of their lives. However, she wasn’t able to continue her YogaFit training right away because of financial considerations. Instead, she found a local studio where she could do her first 200-hour training and, shortly after, she completed four trauma-sensitive specialty trainings. She now teaches the underserved at the local mental hospital and at the local homeless shelter.
Recent, Viana started The Grace Tree Project to bring trauma-informed awareness and yoga to the greater community. She teaches all the classes for free and has a therapist willing to volunteer her services as well. She’s also founded the Trauma Informed Somatic Foundation and is currently applying for its nonprofit status. She’s chosen YogaFit as one of their primary trainings for those who wanting to start their own journey to be a yoga teacher.
Viana’s Love Letter to YogaFit:
Yoga has taught me that patience and perseverance will bring blessings, as long as we do not give up on our dreams. One day I hope to see you again in person, Beth! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done, making people's dreams into reality. Thank you for developing YogaFit as it provided me the start of an amazing 15 year journey to get me to my purpose and passion. My respect and appreciation for you is unending, saying thank you seems not enough. Just know you have changed this woman's life journey. Dreams do come true!
