Canadian Forces Veteran Shares His Story

My name is Greg and I'd like to share my story on why I chose YogaFit to start my journey of becoming a certified yoga instructor.

I am a veteran of the Canadian Forces with 34 plus years of service and live in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area. I started doing Yoga in 2014 when I was diagnosed with PTSD and have been doing yoga ever since. In 2015 I took part in a transition program hosted by the Veteran's Transition Network ( based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. During this program we discussed setting long term goals. One of the long term goals I had set was, to someday, teach yoga to fellow veteran brothers and sisters whom were also afflicted with PTSD. In September of 2018 I decided I was ready to start this journey.

I started searching on-line for an organization to train with when the Warrior Program offered by YogaFit caught my eye. I decided to register for the Level One training just to check it out. To do a recce if you will. In October of 2018, I completed the Level One Foundations training which was led by April Baker.

I was instantly drawn in to the program and the YogaFit disciplines. April presented the material in a fun and positive way that had me feeling safe and accepted. These are two very big barriers for a PTSD survivor to overcome. April was a motivating and skilled trainer who genuinely cared about her students. She created a fun atmosphere and encouraged candid conversations that helped foster a secure sense of inclusion. The trauma informed approach is brilliant and further gave me the assurances I needed to trust YogaFit and the organization. YogaFit has clearly done their homework!

I was so inspired with the YogaFit’s philosophies and how April delivered them, I decided to enroll in both the YTT 200 and Warrior 100 programs. I am now very excited about getting certified and sharing Yoga with other trauma survivors. Thank-you YogaFit and thank-you April Baker.

Let the journey begin!
