I am YogaFit: Gloria Vaughan
What's your day job?
During the day I work as a wellness consultant, where I teach yoga classes in a corporate environment, provide health coaching & promote healthy living, design workouts and consult regarding the A-Z topics underneath the wellness umbrella. I work at 6 different companies and get to meet a lot of people. I'm a people person so this is a perfect position for me! It also keeps me fairly current and up to date with the latest health concepts and trends and I have learned a lot over the years.
Which city do you live in?
I live in Kitchener, Ontario
Your morning must-haves?
Waking up to my black lab, Bailey! Professing gratitude to the universe for waking up in my comfy bed, for my family, my dogs and my health, for living in Canada and the list could go on. Laughter yoga with my kids - it never gets old! Usually a litre of my own concocted chocolate smoothie (pumpkin protein, green leaves, avocado, cherries, cacao powder, chia seeds and unsweetened chocolate almond milk) - this too, doesn't get old! And, time permitting, a few yoga poses to get the heart pumping and a few endorphins flowing!
Your favourite YogaFit training?
I can't pick ONE - c'mon! Most favourites, in no particular order: Healthcare 2: Examining the Subtle Body, studying subtle energies, was really cool, next level "stuff". Warrior Kids, heavy stuff but fascinating and interesting to see the parts of the puzzle and how yoga can help, maybe we can change the world (?)! YogaFit for Athletes - empowering, more tools for the "toolbox", and Christa! Her energy and enthusiasm, she's a great coach! Also, Anatomy - it was a great experience. Met some people in that course who have become friends since then, didn't see that coming! Level 4 and reading The Bhagavad Gita, was life changing. Studying the history and philosophy of yoga was a really great experience for me.
YogaFit aligned with my values, that yoga should be for everybody and every body. As a personal trainer, I liked that YogaFit also views yoga through a fitness perspective. We are responsible for coaching and guiding people safely through their practice.
What brought you to your mat?
Pregnancy! I started yoga when I was a few months pregnant. It was very stimulating for the baby as she started to move around a lot whenever I practiced yoga!
How did you discover YogaFit?
I discovered YogaFit through the canfitpro conference, and when YogaFit offered a training in my community I had to give it a shot!
What made you decide to choose YogaFit as part of your yoga journey?
The master trainers in my Level 1 course, Paul and Terra. They were so amazing! They had a very strong knowledge of anatomy and movement, their fitness background was strong, but their kind hearts and beautiful souls are what hooked me, that people could be so authentic and nice, in the fitness industry. YogaFit's essence of letting go of judgement, competition and expectation really blew me away - I was so impressed that Paul and Terra were living this, and that I could let my guard down and find my way back to myself.
What is your favourite YogaFit memory so far?
Singing the YogaFit song at the MBF's! (Breathing, Feeling, Listening to your Body! Letting go of Judgment, competition expectation! ...)
When you look forward, what does your yoga journey look like?
Yoga will always be a part of my life, on and off the mat. I'd like to shape my career to become a master trainer for YogaFit. I've known since the beginning that I'd like to be a part of this family that shares knowledge, experiences and love for yoga and humanity, each other and everyone. I've worked with YogaFit at the canfitpro conference for the past 4 years and can say I've had a really good inside view of what it is made of. It would be an honour to represent YogaFit and to give back what I've gotten from YogaFit. I also plan to continue working towards a 500 hour/800 hour designation, or just take trainings forever! I am currently somewhere over the 300 hour mark as of now.
What is one of your favourite, go-to cues you use to teach your students?
Here are a few: Take the expression of the pose that best suits "your" body for today. When your body is ready to leave the pose, please feel free to meet back in ...(downdog/mountain/child's pose)etc. Let's just notice how our body feels here...
