What's your day job?
My day job is Yoga! I just recently decided that I was going to make yoga my full career focus and I left my job as a Solar Technician Field Manager.
Which city do you live in?
Your morning must-haves?
Warm lemon water, a smoothie and a walk with my dog on the path behind my subdivision. I use the walk as my morning mediation and to set my intention for the day
Your favourite YogaFit training?
Level 5 was the most emotionally gratifying as we had a large group completing there 200 hours but in terms of content it was Healthcare 1. I really feel that personalized one on one yoga training is going to be a big part of people’s wellness program and really felt healthcare 1 put us on the path to do this.
Most of the teachers that I really enjoyed were YogaFit trained and after doing my research the reputation really impressed me. What was important to me was the modular training and the non-commitment to the whole 200-hour certification. Taking the individual trainings really allowed me to absorb the material better and gave me an opportunity to implement it in my teaching style before moving onto the next one.
What brought you to your mat?
In my early twenties, I was into weight training and heavy lifting but then went back to school and got into construction management which left no time for the gym anymore. My health and wellness was suffering and I knew I needed to do something, I tried weights again but just made me sore and then my wife suggested yoga. I started with one class a week and instantly noticed a difference. Not only did yoga start making me physically healthy but also mentally and emotionally. The more I did Yoga the better I felt which is why I teach, so I can share the many benefits I have received from finding my mat.
How did you discover YogaFit?
I started practicing at Goodlife and most of the instructors were trained through Yogafit and I very much enjoyed the style and how each instructor still had their own uniqueness.
What made you decide to choose YogaFit as part of your yoga journey?
The modular training style is what made me choose YogaFit and the Master Trainers and community that I have now makes me stay.
What is your favourite YogaFit memory so far?
The kirtans at the MBF always are a special memory for me. I really enjoy sound healing and I think there is such power in a community coming together and allowing our vibrations to flow.
Why was Healthcare 1: Assessing the Physical Body your favourite YogaFit training?
Healthcare 1 as it set me on the path to wanting to become yoga therapist and solidifying to myself that I need to personally take care of myself so that I can help others heal. This was the course that made me want to make Yoga my full-time career and focus in life.
When you look forward, what does your yoga journey look like?
As I move forward on my journey, I want to find different avenues of teaching and bringing yoga to people and make it a sustainable lifestyle and career for myself. Travel has always been important, and I want to continue traveling, I am in Costa Rica this December teaching on my first retreat and in 2020 I plan on going to the YogaFit India retreat. I also want to live a more yogic centric life, I feel it is very important to walk the talk, just not doing yoga but living a yogi lifestyle.
What is one of your favourite, go-to cues you use to teach your students?
“Allow yourself to stretch, lift, open… etc, one micro meter more”
