Restorative Pose of the Month: Savasana, swaddled leg variation

To set up, provide any necessary support to your neck and under the hips or back. The variation shown here shows an assistant swaddling the student’s legs. A blanket is folded long-ways several times, then draped over the knees. Roll up excess ends of the blanket and tuck under the student’s knees. The purpose of the swaddling has several benefits. Physical benefits: prevents hyperextension of knee, thus protection of the low back. Also, passively activates inner thigh and pelvic floor muscles. Energetic benefits: strengthen chakra 1, soothes fight or flight response, assists with a sense of well-being and a sense of safety and security.
Pranayama: Counting Breath-count the length of your inhale, then the length of the exhale. Keeping the breath seamless.
Visualization: Working with the unification of opposite energies to create equanimity in the body, feel open and light in the chest and through the mind space. Feel heavy, rested from the navel down through the soles of the feet.

Affirmation: I am safe and secure in this place. I give my body permission to rest. All is well in this place, and all that I need comes to me effortlessly. I am full of gratitude for all that I have.
