Meet Macy, YogaFit Master Trainer
We are so proud of our YogaFit® family, we started this SPOTLIGHT SERIES so you can get to know a few of them a little better. Thank you Macy for being our spotlight this month.
Q. Do you remember when and where you were when you took your first yoga class?
My first ever yoga class was about 15 years ago. A friend asked me to go with her. I went back a few times and found it to be a good balance with my love of teaching step-aerobics and interval training classes.
Q. What made you become a yoga teacher?
The YMCA I was teaching at put in a yoga program where I became a regular. I had no idea then what YogaFit® was but the instructor was YogaFit® trained. The YMCA decided that they wanted to train me to substitute the class and offered to help with the cost of a YogaFit® training. I had no idea what to expect in the training but I ended up loving it! I quickly moved from subbing in to having a regular class on the schedule.
Q. What was it that first drew you to Yogafit®?
I’ve always loved anatomy and exercise science. The Seven Principles of Alignment (SPA) sold me on YogaFit®. To this day, I feel like by following SPA when leading my yoga class will always keep my students as safe as possible.
Q. Do you have a favorite class you like to teach?
Q. How has being a Yogafit® master trainer changed your life?
The in depth knowledge I’ve gained about the YogaFit® Training systems has changed my teaching and practice, but the people I’ve met has been the biggest reason I love what I do. The other Master Trainers are phenomenal people and I’m so proud to be part of this team. Even more rewarding are the diverse groups of trainees that I have gotten to know at each training.
Q. What is your favorite yoga format to teach?
I love YogaFit® Sweat. I think this format “meets people where they are” who would typically consider Yoga to be “not difficult enough”. Most of the time a hot class will get them in the door but the real magic happens when they branch out and try other formats and really find the holistic benefits of a yoga practice.
Q. What is your favorite part of teaching training weekends?
Day two of Level 1 is by far my favorite! So many people walk into the training feeling nervous. It’s so rewarding to see participants able to lead a small group through a flow of poses the very next day. I can actually feel the confidence building in the room.
Q. What was your most memorable YogaFit® moment teaching a YF training?
There are way too many to mention! Recently I was inspired by a beautiful 84 year old lady who participated in a Level 1 workshop. She had been practicing for 30 years. She’s proof that the learning and growing in yoga never end.
Q. Can you tell us about someone you know who has experienced the biggest transformation through YogaFit®?
I’ve had a wonderful lady participate in several of my trainings who started yoga to lose weight. Her yoga did bring the result of the weight loss she wanted, but in addition, it changed her in so many other ways. She is truly happier and healthier internally as well as externally.
