General Description:
Upon arriving in New Delhi, we will take private transportation to the spiritual village of Rishikesh, situated in the
foothills of the Himalayas. Rishikesh is the sacred village where yoga originated over 5,000 years ago. Here we will
experience:

  • Hiking to the Divine Mother Temple in the Himalayas
  • Meditation at Vashista Guha Cave
  • Visits to Ashrams and Holy Temples
  • Taking part in Aartis and Pujas (ceremonious spiritual offerings)
  • Havana by the Ganges (fire purification ceremony)

Each day will begin with a yoga class and meditation

India requires that each traveler has a passport and visa to enter the country.

Clothing:
Rishikesh is tucked into the foothills of the Himalayas. The temperature can change dramatically from warm to cool. Layered clothing is recommended. More specific information will be sent out closer to departure. Tank tops and shorts should be avoided as the Indian culture is a more conservative one (unless in yoga studio). Beautiful pashmina and silk scarves are available for purchase throughout the village, as well as traditional Indian garb, such as Kurtas.

Nestled on 450 acres of rolling woodlands and meadows, cradled in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains and encircled by wildlife, you will find a tranquil space devoted to "renewing your spirit in the heart of nature".

LODGING
The Country Place Retreat and Conference Center offers a variety of sleeping arrangements and can accommodate up to 65 overnight guests. To promote greater camaraderie, stay in the spacious shared rooms of the Main Lodge. For a more private setting, choose a room in the new Treetops Lodge. Each of the rooms has its own theme and is individually decorated.

CUISINE
The Poconos specializes in healthy cuisine, which includes fresh fruits and vegetables (many from their own organic garden), chicken and fish, as well as whole-grain breads and desserts. Snacks, gourmet trail mix and herbal teas are available throughout the day, as well as during breaks in programs. A talented chef is skilled in delighting our guests with thoughtfully planned seasonal fare.

Warm days and evenings invite guests to enjoy the peaceful, natural setting and rest with ease in the tranquility it inspires. The Blue Heron Pavilion offers one of the most scenic views on the property, overlooking the spring-fed pond and the mountainside. THE LAND
The Country Place Retreat and Conference Center, located in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains, has been a sacred place for hundreds of families and guests for over 150 years. Ancient legend has it that the area surrounding The Country Place - over 450 acres of woodlands and meadows - has been blessed by Native People. In spring the land is covered with wild flowers, in summer bursting with bushes filled with ripe blueberries, in fall ablaze with multicolored trees and in winter, coated in a blanket of pure white.

LABYRINTH
Walking the winding path of a labyrinth for meditation, relaxation or just to get answers has become increasingly popular. This ancient ritual has many architectural possibilities today from concrete paths to stone paths to portable labyrinths. A labyrinth is an ancient symbol of wholeness - a metaphor for life’s journey. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a single purposeful path leading to a center.

Prerequisites: Due to the in-depth nature of this training in philosophy, theory, pranayama, meditation, and other special techniques, including chanting yoga sutras relevant to Astanga yoga in Sanskrit, we are requiring a strong foundation of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, and Sanskrit pronunciation. Therefore, all attending must have completed their Yoga Alliance RYT 200, and Level 4 Integration is a required prerequisite for this training. Your Level 4 Trainer will be requiring specific home work and focus for all attending as integration and evaluating
your readiness for the 10-Day Intensive. Graduates of other RYT 200 programs, will need to also take the YF Level 1 Foundations training
weekend prior to attending the 10-Day Intensive.

Heart Gate Sanctuary is a magnificent 10,000 sq. ft. renovated schoolhouse, circa 1910, located just above the beautiful Columbia River town of Hood River, Oregon. Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams stand as sentinels to the south and north, and the area abounds in rivers, lakes, and wilderness. The charming and vibrant resort town of Hood River revolves around world class sport offerings, as well as the fruit orchards that sit above the powerful Columbia River. Great chefs, art, music, and festivals add to the ambiance. Even the hour drive from Portland Int’l airport is enchanting as it follows the Columbia River through its famous Gorge.

*Seva As part of each retreat at HeartGate, participants live together in community and practice seva. Seva, regardless of its form, is giving ourselves unconditionally in service. It supports the release of resistance, our internal argument with the present moment. Every moment at HeartGate immerses us in the practice of Unity awareness. Many of our 2009 500-hr retreat participants say that although the community living aspect of this intensive was what, initially, they were most resistant to, in the end, it was one of the most beneficial aspects of their intensive experience. They became closer than they imagined, and learned more about themselves than they thought possible in their time together.

Meals
Heart Gate Sanctuary serves mainly lacto-ovo vegetarian meals (vegan is available). A variety of grains, fruits and vegetables, dried fruits and nuts are offered. The quality of the food is high. An outstanding collection of teas and gourmet coffee is also offered. Beverages include both dairy and non-dairy alternatives such as soy milk, almond milk, and rice milk. If you have specific dietary restrictions or allergies,
please let us know in advance, or bring your own supplies.

Ashram Showers
As part of our planetary responsibility, we take ashram showers which involve getting wet, turning the water off while you shampoo and soap, then back on for rinse.

Arrivals/Departures and Ground Transportation:
If flying, please plan a flight arriving into Portland Airport between 9 am and 2 pm on Friday July 30th. Additionally, please plan a flight leaving on Monday, August 9th after 1 pm. Yoga Fit’s Hood River MBF Conference will start on Weds, August 11th, so you may choose to stay enjoy a free day or two of hiking and bike riding, and complete more of your RYT 500 requirements. In this case, we will provide transportation
back on Sunday night or Monday morning to the airport after the Conference.

Master Trainers and Reading List:
Hood River 10-Day Intensive will be taught by ERYT 500 YogaFit Master Trainers, Beth Shaw and Stephanie Adams, and ERYT 500 Anand Mehrotra from Rishikesh, India. Anand Mehrotra will teach our Classical Yoga practice that will include mantra, asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, and an opportunity to ask questions of this master visiting us from India.

Having just returned from one of the most transformational experiences of my life, I, like many of the ten other women that went through this journey with me, are having to adjust to the day to day routines of the real world. Back to our families, homes, students, and the reality of life. Someone asked me what my experience was like and I had a difficult time putting it into words. So, this is my attempt to share what we experienced and learned. Breathing was all I had in mind when I arrived. I just needed to breathe. But, that quickly changed to being in the moment. Committing to LIVING totally in the present. I have to be real and say how little philosophy that I knew coming into this training. It really wasn't until I was totally immersed in the Hood River—Heart Gate Sanctuary that I have seen such love in action. Women truly devoted to a practice, not a physical one because, frankly, that’s what I thought I would be challenged on most. When, in fact, that was the least challenging aspect of all for me (other than a few Kriyas, moving meditation). But, a practice that goes deeper into our hearts and out through our actions. We all seemed to be gaining courage and feeding off each other’s intense and sometimes quiet energy. It was a roller coaster of emotions, an explosion of deep respect and gratitude for 10 women who I never met before, and now am completely bonded with for life over an experience that has and will define my life for years to come.
